Teacher: Mr. Stefan Room #: 354 Contact Information: Email: [email protected] Phone: (248) 351-0000 Extension: 11314 Class Overview: In Grade 5, instructional time will focus on three critical areas: (1) developing fluency with addition and subtraction of fractions, and developing understanding of the multiplication of fractions and of division of fractions in limited cases (2) extending division to 2-digit divisors, integrating decimal fractions into the place value system and developing understanding of operations with decimals to hundredths, and developing fluency with whole number and decimal operations; and (3) developing understanding of volume. September-October Review: Multiplication, Division Understanding and Interpreting Numerical Expressions Order of Operations October-December Analyzing Patterns and Relationships Number and Operations in Base 10 Rounding January Number and Place Value in Base 10 Decimals February Adding and Subtracting Decimals March Adding and Subtracting Fractions April Multiplying and Dividing Fractions May-June Geometry Measurement and Data Classroom expectations for student behavior: -Be Respectful (treat all teachers, students, and property with respect at all times) -Be Responsible (you are responsible for your actions) -Be Safe (keep hands, feet, and other objects to yourself) -Be Punctual (be on time to class and prepared with materials) Homework policy: Homework packets are given at the beginning of the week and due later in the week or early the following week. I will go over the homework with students in class. If an assignment is late points will be deducted. If students are absent they will receive the homework the next day having an extra day to complete without penalty. Students will need to have a homework folder that they take home daily. I advise parents to look in the homework folder daily which will also hold important handouts. Assessment scale: Class work: 60 % Tests/Quizzes: 30 % Homework: 10 %
